Thursday, August 29 - Day 2

Hola familia! I'm not sure how much time I have today, but just wanted to let you know that I made it and am doing great! Yesterday was quite the trip. I had about seven other missionaries on my flight from Dallas to Miami which I didn't expect. They came from all over to Dallas and then we flew together to Miami. At Miami we met up with like 15 or 20 others (we were like a third of the flight to the DR!) It was only me and 2 others sisters though. All the rest were Elders. Most of our group is going to Santiago, but there are a few going to Puerto Rico. I sat next to this couple that lives in Santo Domingo, but used to live in Flower Mound for 7 years! They seemed to know all about Mormons and said they see the missionaries everywhere but have never had them knock on their door. They were so nice. They gave me a lot of advice on the trip there. We had to fill out some paperwork on the flight before we could go through customs and of course I didn't pack a pen in my carryon bag. haha. Luckily this woman next to me lent me hers and helped me understand what they were asking. If I hadn't come in with all of these others missionaries, I don't think I would have made it through that DR airport. It was complicated and most of the employees couldn't speak English. One of the missionaries with us was fluent in Spanish though so I made friends with him real quick. All of my luggage made it so I actually have more than my scriptures and passport. Yay! It took about 5 minutes of being outside before my hair was completely drenched! I have a new definition of humidity now. I would much rather take the hotter whether and less humidity in Texas than this. Luckily in the CCM we have air conditioning! The bus ride home was fun! Things here are much different. People just walk on the highway as cars are zooming by. And there are palm trees everywhere! The Temple is so beautiful! I hope I can go through soon. I actually have 2 companions (the 2 I traveled with)- Hermana Winger and Hermana Dispain. Hermana Winger is from Bountiful, Utah and Hermana Dispain is from Mesa, Arizona. I like them both a lot. We are getting along great. There are only about 12 Sisters in the whole CCM which is strange, but at least I get 2 of them as my companions. I got my name tag! It's so cool to wear it! It's going to take some getting used to to calling myself Hermana Woolf! So I got in about 10 PM last night but didn't get to bed until midnight so I am pretty tired. Today has been great. We've been in class all morning and the teacher won't speak any English. She only speaks to us in Spanish so we are kind of forced to learn it. I like it. There are definitely some who haven't learned any yet and are struggling. My 2 semesters in high school are really helping me! Well they are saying my time is up so I have to go. I love you all so much! I'm sure I'll have a lot to tell you next week! Hasta luego!

I leave for the Dominican Republic MTC this Wednesday, August 27th! I will fly to Miami and meet up with 30 other missionaries and then we will all make our way to the DR. My adventure is about to begin. I will be set apart tomorrow night and will then be a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the next 18 months! See ya in February of 2015!
